Business: Learning from Kwan

So many media outlets have reported on the departure of Michelle Kwan from the Olympic 2006 ice skating competition so I decided I would voice my opinion about it too. I feel that Michelle made a brave attempt at participating in a sport that has usually said goodbye to those who are at her age. To read more about this, please click here.

I want to applaud her for being brave and attempting to share her talent with the world through this competition. Comparing this situation to business owners, I think that we can learn from her in that we have to be brave and take risk in our business.

Some of the risk may pay off big with a gold medal and some may not, yet we can be thankful for the courage to take the risk. If we as business owners don’t take risk and try new things even with the odds against us, how can we expect our businesses to grow.

Recently, I too decided to take a risk and write a book that would provide help to business owners and it is entitled, “The Ouch Factor” (www.TheOuchFactor.com). In this book, I share some of “the ouches” that I and my business associates have experienced with our businesses. I know that as a business owner I took a risk in writing this book because I am baring my soul to my readers and letting them see my imperfection so that it will help you deal with “the ouches” in your business.
